This is reputed to be the location where the freed African American slaves sat on arriving at this site to pray and discuss their future. This site is the historical origin of the present-day independent country of Sierra Leone. The Cotton Tree is a central landmark in the city and is flanked by the National Courts of Justice (white building seen on the right) and the National Museum (just behind the smaller tree to the left).
